Until recently, this international club for older motorcyclists, with more than 36,000 members of the parent Ulysses Club in Australia and worldwide national Ulysses clubs, was not represented in France.
At the initiative of John Cooke, already a member of Ulysses Club in Great Britain, and now a resident of the Abondance valley, this lack has now been filled.  Several of the older members of the local SAMVA motorcycle club (Sympathique Association des Motards de la Vallée d’Abondance) aged over 40 years (a requirement for membership of Ulysses.) joined him to create Ulysses-Club France whose President Olivier Chouette (aka Enzo) commented:

"Whilst this initial event took place under a weak sun with rather cool morning temperatures it has been a great success for our new club.
Indeed we were astonished that our first ever event attracted around one hundred bikers from Australia, England, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, and the USA.
As might be expected, the days were mostly spent on motorcycles because every day, riders from the new club arranged to lead 3 rides of different lengths and difficulty throughout the Chablais, the Savoy, Switzerland and neighbouring Italy.  Rides on the Sunday converged on the nearby ski resort of Le Praz de Lys where Phillipe Adam head of the La Chapelle d'Abondance Tourist Office had kindly arranged with the resort Tourist Office of Praz de Lys to hold a magnificent barbeque lunch.  In the evenings riders were able to meet in the dining hall at Le Carlina in La Ville du Nant to enjoy a convivial meal, share stories of the day and make plans for the next.

It is with great pleasure that all these senior motor bikers successfully piloted many alpine passes and bends, and were able to enjoy some of the beautiful Alpine landscapes in the Rhone Alpes region, which many of them did not know previously."
Most of the visiting Ulysses riders departed on Tuesday morning with many determined to come back soon, either here in the Rhone Alpes or elsewhere in France,
